“ The Paradoxical Commandments
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.”

It is an interesting world that we live in at the moment.

Despite the challenges that have been brought to one third of the world under lockdown, it is still interesting. On a basic level it has been wonderful to re-see the colours, smell with intensity the smells of living mingled with the flora of nature, the shapes that we use to create our habitat and all those things that we took for granted have taken on a new allure. This, I think, is one of the gifts of experiencing a pandemic; that and figuring through what does being in the world mean? It may be that we will never completely answer the question, we are not talking existential crisis here but more of our sense of place and time and how it all knits together.

The World card is a mirror of this matrix, an integration of the physical, psychic and spiritual, a fusion of body, soul and mind.

Being in the world requires us to be incarnate. That is our experience, the potential seeking consciousness held in a body, expressed through thoughts and feelings, a sensual experience that underpins our existence. I think that our time on the earthly plane is probably one of the most spiritual experiences we could imagine. Being alive is THE spiritual thing to do, nothing more or less. Insight comes from thriving under the conditions of being human, the aim, supposedly, being to enhance all that we can and evolve accordingly.

When we draw the World card we are being told that we have come to the end of a cycle.

This does not mean that something is all over but rather we can begin again. Life is made up of these eternal cycles, everything has a cycle, an echo perhaps from our journey through eternity.

Beginning a new cycle is a renewal, not only for us but also for the environment we inhabit. This is a familiar Tarot theme; renewal and avoidance of stagnation. It is vital that we do not become frozen in the camps we create.

Our search is for the peace that wholeness can bring.

But as the adage states, ‘it is not the destination but the journey’. Wholeness is a path in itself and will take us, as a traveller, beyond the physical, into the wild depths of realms yet to be encountered. The point?...To find peace.

In another context we can see the journey as one of a movement into maturity.

The internal landscape is shaping the world as we know it. The World is a card of promise, hope, harmony and positive, inspired realizations. We are urged to find the balance necessary to make manifest the great and the good within.

Sometimes we have to break the cycles of the past. This can be done by acknowledgement and then release, otherwise the chaos and the struggle will repeat itself. Discover and build on what works; let it be organic and evolve where necessary. The world is only a prison if you allow it to be.

Respect and love as well as faith and courage are the armoury required for being in the external world, the world that you have co-created.
